EUGENE, Ore. -- With the “Oh, the Places You Can Go!” program, teachers in Lane County can learn more about local job opportunities for their students.
The “places” may relate to what they’re teaching or a particular student’s interest.
The Eugene City Club puts on the program, which offers a free 11-week course. From Jan. 10 to March 21, teachers will meet on Thursdays from 4 to 7 p.m. to visit different businesses and learn about what they offer.
“Now that I’ve been teaching this course, I see things I never saw before,” Course Instructor Mary Leighton said. “And I ask questions I never asked before, and I meet new people, and they’ll say, ‘I do economic development for the chamber of commerce,’ and I’ll say, ‘Well what is that?’ and I think it does that for teachers too.”
Leighton said it’s also an opportunity for companies to find out what kind of students are heading out into the workplace and informs both sides about what’s happening in the community.
The program is open to all teachers across Lane County.
