EUGENE, Ore. – Lane County is closing in on reaching its goal of recovering 63 percent of its waste by the year 2025.

In 2017, the county was able to keep half of its waste out of the landfill. Officials said there are still things people can do to improve these numbers.

The county said some things that once weren’t recyclable now are. This includes items like Styrofoam, you can now recycle it at St. Vincent De Paul’s.

The county suggests watching your purchases as well. You can reduce waste by buying less disposable items and items that come in recyclable containers.

Last year, Lane County recovered more waste than any other county in Oregon. Businesses and households in the county recycled more than 258,000 tons of waste.
