VENETA, Ore. -- The Oregon Country Fair, which kicks off Friday near Veneta, takes measures to protect the environment.

Many of the structures at the fair are reused every year, including the popular dance pavilion.

“I don’t probably need to tell anyone that one of the beautiful aesthetics of fair is the patina on the booths and elements like that, so the older the better,” said Michael Spatzek with the Oregon Country Fair.

They also have their own recycling crews working with food vendors and do everything they can to get rid of plastic from the fair.
Almost everything, including beverage cups, is compostable.

Fairgoers can also help the environment by taking a Lane Transit District bus to the fairgrounds instead of driving. The shuttle buses leave from two locations in Eugene and provide free transportation to and from the fairgrounds for anyone with an Oregon Country Fair ticket.
