As more kids opt for college, it's leaving trade businesses like electricians, carpenters, and plumbers with a shortage of skilled workers.

EUGENE, Ore. - College seems like the only option for many kids after high school but, as more opt for that four-year degree, it creates a growing need for trade workers.

Many electricians, carpenters, and plumbers all seem to agree that a lack of skilled workers is limiting their business and in turn, costing the economy.

Managers at Reynold's Electric were at a construction and aggregate job fair last week at Willamette High School.

They said they're always looking for new employees, especially as electricians retire.

Managers said although it seems recently that more people are going into the trade, they're still short on qualified employees.

They said their company offers internships so students can get an idea of what the job entails in addition to paid apprenticeships.

Reynold's Electric was just one of many companies at the job fair that offered paid training that leads to a debt-free career, and good wages.
