SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - Two students who just graduated from the Springfield School District got some extra help before they start college in fall.

Employers throughout Western Oregon are losing qualified employees to retirement and struggling to find skilled replacements. That's why KEZI 9 News is partnering with industry leaders in the "Skilled to Work" campaign.

Students Dustin Molder and Cyrus Ullman thought they were just going out for breakfast with their teacher. When they got to the Springfield High School Auto Shop they found gifts waiting for them to help jump-start their careers, new toolboxes, and tools.

"It's been a long road," said Molder. "I've always loved working on cars because of my dad." Molder said he hopes to one day open his own auto repair shop.

Ullman said he one day hopes to work on machines for Knife River, a construction company. "I really appreciate everything they have done for me," said Ullman. "I hope in the future I can make them happy by showing them I'm successful."
