MAPLETON, Ore. -- The man who started a wildfire near Mapleton will serve 10 years in prison.

Elias Pendergrass, 44, of Mapleton was sentenced on Wednesday after pleading guilty.

The district attorney's office said Pendergrass must also complete three years of post-prison supervision after his release. He will also have to pay restitution, but the amount has not yet been determined.

Over the next six months, more information about the extent of the damage will be collected.

The Sweet Creek Fire sparked an evacuation notice in late August and had grown to 382 acres before it was fully lined.
