BLUE RIVER, Ore. -- It's been nearly a year since the Holiday Farm Fire swept through Blue River, but there are still people living in hotels in our area.

Tina Oyervides is a Blue River resident. She lived in the same home for 27 years. That home is now gone.

"I lost everything. My home, all of my, everything. I mean things that shouldn't have burned burned," said Oyervides.

Oyervides told KEZI 9 News she didn't think her home would be completely gone.

"I really didn't think it would be. I really thought I would go back to my house. But it was all gone, everything," she said.

In the year since losing her home, Oyervides, her mother, and grandchildren have been hotel hopping. She's lived in five differrent hotels in the past year. Now she's living in the Guest House Inn in Springfield.

But losing her home wasn't the only thing that Oyervides experienced this year. To make matters worse, Oyervides caught COVID-19 just a short time after moving into her first hotel. But then the real shock hit.

"COVID actually saved my life because I found out I had cancer. Because COVID attacks any pre-condition that you have, and I didn't know I had one," said Oyervides.

Oyervides found out she had uterine cancer, forcing a complete hysterectomy on Dec. 28, 2020. And after that, doctors found an adrenal cyst.

She had the cyst removed, and she is healthy once again. Oyervides said she has to keep her head up for her grandchildren, and for herself.

"The best thing that I can do is just keep going. It's just is what it is. It's just one more thing that God has put in my way to deal with is all," said Oyervides.

And even though her life has been dark for the past 12 months, there is always a light at the end of the tunnel.

Oyervides said her new house will be ready in the spring.
