EUGENE, Ore. – Crews are fighting a fire off Highway 58 that officials said is suspicious.

Brian Dally, unit forester for the Oregon Department of Forestry, said the fire was a quarter to a half acre large and is burning under timber on the forest floor.

It’s located along Highway 58 at about milepost 18 or 19 on the south side.

Four ODF engines are at the scene.

Crews have knocked down the forward progress of the fire and have put a wet line around it with hose, Dally said. The fire could be out by the end of the day.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
