DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore. – The fire burning near Diamond Lake has burned nearly 10,000 acres and is 15% contained, according to the US Forest Service.
Level 3 Go evacuations remain in place for the Diamond Lake, Lemolo Lake and Toketee Ranger Station areas.
The Thielsen Fire is burning five miles north of Crater Lake National Park and within one mile of Diamond Lake Resort.
There are 329 people assigned to the fire.
On Friday, firefighters are focused on a direct attack where possible as well as on protecting critical infrastructure and holding the fire’s southern edge. Mop up is in progress along containment lines.
Crews will secure the Cinnamon Butte communications tower.
Air operations will drop retardant to protect the Cinnamon Butte Lookout when weather conditions allow.
Highway 138E is closed. Temporary closures are in effect for all National Forest System lands, roads and trails in the Cottage Grove Ranger District, Tiller Ranger District, Diamond Lake Ranger District and North Umpqua Ranger District.
At this time, the cause of the fire is not known.
