EUGENE, Ore. – A blaze burning near Fern Ridge Lake is now under control.

The fire, which started in the area of Bridges Lane and Fir Butte Road just before 4 p.m., is one of two grass fires that sparked up in west Eugene Monday afternoon. Officials said the fire grew to about six acres and was moving to the west and southwest.

Several residents along Royal Avenue west of Fir Butte Lane were encouraged to evacuate, but officials now say it is safe to return to their homes. So far, there are no reports of injuries or structures lost.

Police are asking the public to avoid the area.

Meanwhile, a second fire is burning in the area of South Danebo and Pacific avenues. That fire was reported just after 3 p.m.
