DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore. -- Investigators are still trying to determine what sparked multiple fires on a Douglas County hillside.

Crews from the Douglas Forest Protective Association and Winston - Dillard Fire Department responded Monday afternoon to an area six miles southwest of Winston near Kent Creek just before 5 p.m.

The first engine reported a quarter-acre fire burning among young trees and several small spot fires burning on a recently logged hillside. 

Ground resources, including engine crews and a bulldozer, worked to construct fire lines and install hose lays around the perimeter of both the primary and spot fires. Two helicopters dumped buckets of water on the fire to keep it in check.

Firefighters were able to stop the spread around 6 p.m. and will remain on scene overnight.

The Kent Creek Fire burned approximately two acres. No homes were threatened by the fire, and the cause is currently under investigation.
