SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- A Portland law firm is helping wildfire victims with their insurance claims.
Oregon Trial Lawyers Association will have volunteer lawyers across the state offering their counseling. These events will be free to wildfire victims. The main goal is to help those who need to get their claims started and answer questions they might have about the process.
Lara Johnson is a partner with Corson and Johnson Law Firm and her firm will be helping at an event in Springfield.
“Our hope is we will spend time with individuals and families and that at the end they'll have their questions answered and feel like they can do a better job walking themselves through the process,” Johnson said.
She said no appointment is necessary. There will be multiple in-person lawyers, as well as ones over Zoom and the phone, to answer any questions. Johnson said victims should bring a copy of their insurance policy and their declaration. This event is strictly counseling and volunteers are not looking for clients. But they will refer victims to lawyers if the case warrants it.
Johnson said being an Oregonian all her life, she felt she had to help the victims of the wildfires.
“I went to school, elementary school through high school in Eugene. I river rafted on the McKenzie River growing up. I feel for the folks who lost their homes and as a lawyer I asked myself what we can do?"
