DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore. – A two-acre grass fire sparked about eight miles east of Myrtle Creek Tuesday, and crews quickly worked to keep the fire from spreading.

Fire officials from The Douglas Forest Protective Association and Myrtle Creek Rural Fire Department first responded to the Louis Creek Fire at around 1:30 p.m.

The fire was moving up a hillside near the 400 block of Louis Creek Road, burning grass and trees. This prompted other resources to be requested, including the Tri-City, Riddle and Canyonville -- South Umpqua rural fire departments.

Four helicopters were used along with a bulldozer.

Fire officials investigating the cause believe the Louis Creek Fire could have been sparked by an electric cart driving through dry grass.

Crews plan to mop up into Wednesday night.
