EUGENE, Ore.-- The Eugene-Springfield Fire Department just announced their fire protection rating has improved. It increased from a class 3 to a class 2.

The ratings are distributed by the insurance service office and it evaluates many parts of a fire department; like equipment, staffing, and training.

Eugene-Springfield Fire was able to bring the rating up by working and being evaluated together. They were previously evaluated separately.

The fire chief said the rating ensures the community is getting high quality service. It will also save residents money.

According to the chief, a higher fire protection rating means lower property insurance for the city.
"We have demonstrated efficiencies and effectiveness with the organization and with everything we do every day, we are going to allow everybody in the community to experience a five percent reduction in their fire insurance,” Fire Chief Joe Zaludek said.

He said whether or not you pay property insurance directly, the strong ISO rating keeps premiums low and that will affect everyone.
