TOKATEE FALLS, Ore. – Oregon State Police are investigating a crash on Highway 138 east after a truck was found in an embankment with a deceased driver.
The crash was reported Wednesday afternoon.
Oregon State Police said the driver was Owen Byer, a 62-year-old from the Lakeview-Coquille area.
Byer was pronounced dead at the scene by troopers.
The troopers' preliminary investigation found Byer was not wearing a seatbelt while he was behind the steering wheel of the Ford F250 pickup truck.
Troopers also said the truck was going eastbound on Highway 138E and for unknown reasons crossed into the westbound lane and off onto the shoulder where it collided with a guardrail.
According to investigators, the pickup then continued on the westbound shoulder and rolled down a dirt embankment coming to rest on its side.
