SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- The annual Springfield Christmas parade has been canceled.

Organizers said the parade, originally scheduled for December 2, has lost volunteers.

The Springfield Community Parade Corporation made the decision with a "heavy heart and after much deliberation." They said they have searched for volunteers and can't get enough staff needed to make it happen.

They will return any entry fees that have already been sent in and hope to come up with some type of parade or holiday celebration in the future.

They said the parade has grown each year and in 2016 more than 10,000 people showed up to watch.
