WINSTON, Ore. - Police are searching for an attempted kidnapping suspect who allegedly tried to lure a teenage girl in his car Sunday night.
Investigators with Winston Police Department said a 16-year-old girl was walking home around 11:30 p.m. near Darrell Avenue and Thompson Avenue.
She said a man in a red or maroon Chrysler or Cadillac drove up to her and rolled down his window, asking for her name. He claimed he knew her mom and said her mom was at the hospital, saying that they needed to go there right away.
The teenager said she was on the phone with her mother earlier and knew the man was lying. She ran home and said the car turned down Suksdorf Street and Grape Avenue.
The girl said when the man pulled up to her, his car was very quiet. She said the headlights were very dim and did not notice the car until it was right next to her.
She said the suspect only rolled down his window enough for her to hear him and not see him. She described the suspect as having light hair with possible gray in it, possibly in his 40s to 50s, and had a "gravelly voice like a smoker."
