SPRINGFIELD, ORE - Eugene-Springfield firefighters responded to a home near the corner of S and 15th Streets at about 1 a.m. on Thursday.
When they arrived, a garage was fully engulfed, threatening nearby homes. But, those firefighters were able to contain the fire before it spread beyond the garage. Fire crews said the garage was destroyed.
Nobody was on the property, according to firefighters on scene. Firefighters said a neighbor called 911 when they woke up to the fire burning nearby.
"It was probably burning for a little while for it to have gotten going that well before arrival. At night, we usually end up with what's considered a delayed alarm only because nobody reports it until they wake up and see it," said Eugene-Springfield Battallion Fire Chief Matthew Steinberg.
