VENETA, Ore. - Two families have been displaced after two separate fires damaged their houses.

Chief Terry Ney with Lane Fire Authority said the first call came in for a structure fire at 11:19 p.m. Friday night at a two-story house in the 87000 block of Huston Road. A family of two adults, six children, and two dogs were rescued in the fire.

He said they faced challenges with the structure of the house and the long driveway. He said they never did run out of water completely but that they did come close.

KEZI spoke with a neighbor who said they assisted the family when they saw the flames. They are safe and have a place to stay.

The second call came in at 1:05 a.m. Saturday morning for a kitchen fire in the 29000 block of Jeans Road. A family of two adults and two children were displaced in that fire.

Fire officials were still working with the first fire at this time, so they say it stretched their resources pretty thin. They received assistance from Junction City Fire for this fire.

Chief Ney said both houses suffered significant damage. The house on Jean's road was a manufactured home and Ney says it may be a total loss.

KEZI spoke to a neighbor of that family as well who let them stay with her overnight. They will be staying with one of the adult's parents for the time being.

Both families were contacted by American Red Cross, and they offered their services.
