EUGENE, Ore. -- There's a new park open in Southwest Eugene.
Wild Iris Ridge Park is Eugene's newest addition to the Ridgeline Trail system.
It's 250 acres and features a 1.3 mile trail through native prairie and oak habitats. Tuesday morning, Mayor Lucy Vinis officially opened that trail.
Park officials said it's taken more than a decade of work to stabilize the site and restore the habitat.
"The views, and the habitat, and the trail...it's really a jewel. We're really happy to have a part of the Ridgeline now that's open to the public in the Southwest of the city," said Philip Richardson, the Landscape Architect with the City of Eugene.
"Our community values our recreation infrastructure. When we can connect young people to that both in the construction and use of our recreational resources...it's fantastic," said Jeff Parker. Executive Producer of Northwest Youth Corps.
Young adults with Northwest Youth Corps, a local nonprofit, helped to build the trail.
