ROSEBURG, Ore. - Roseburg Police arrested Matthew Bronsert on Thursday, October 26 for possession of a firearm or dangerous weapon in court or public facility as well as driving while suspended.

Police said around 3 p.m. Bronsert walked into the Douglas County Sheriff's Office in the Justice Building with a loaded handgun and said he needed to transport it. They said he was told he couldn't have the gun in the building and left when asked to.

They said witnesses reported seeing Bronsert with the gun and exhibiting suspicious behavior, so officers were called to the scene. He was compliant with the officers requests and was arrested.

Police said guns are not allowed in the Justice Building, however, Bronsert didn't have to go through any security to bring it in.

Dwes Hutson, with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, said there isn't any security when entering the building.

”We have security stations on each floor where access to the courtrooms is provided, including the district attorney’s office. Beyond that there is no physical security."

He said the security stations at the courtrooms do include metal detectors, but no other parts of the building have them.

Hutson said often court officers will make rounds. The fact that the Sheriff's Office is in the building and that the Police Department is in such close proximity also acts as a security measure.
