EUGENE, Ore. – Eugene police are investigating the seventh armed robbery that has happened in less than two weeks in Eugene.
Police said the robbery happened at 7:16 a.m. on Thursday at Lil's Deli, located just off of River Road.
This is the second time the business has experienced an armed robbery this month. The first robbery happened on March 2nd.
Investigators said Thursday’s robbery involved a man who held an employee inside the business at gunpoint, demanding money before running away.
Police said they had help from the Springfield Police Department's K9 unit and the Lane County Sheriff's Office as they searched for the suspect. They were unable to locate the suspect.
KEZI spoke to a woman who works at Bagel Avenue which is in the same shopping center as Lil's Deli. She said she is still in shock there were two robberies in less than two weeks so close to her work.
"I'm pretty scared,” said Alysia Knapp. “It's just less than a block away, so I’m afraid that could happen here. I don't know what I would do in that situation."
Police said the best thing to do if you encounter a gunman is to comply with everything the gunman tells you and to report the crime immediately.
"If somebody is a victim of a crime please do not wait to call 9-1-1,” said Captain Sherri Meisel. “Don't go home, just go to the nearest place where there's a phone if you don't have a cell phone with you, don't delay reporting."
Meisel said they are frustrated by the recent armed robberies like everyone else, but they are doing everything they can to find the people responsible.
"We've had extra patrols out there, we've had detectives working on overtime, working to talk to witnesses but they are also out there doing some more proactive type policing," Meisel said. "We've got teams that are assigned as rapid response teams so that they can respond as quickly as possible."
Police described Thursday morning's suspect as a white man in his 20's or 30's, approximately 5’10” tall, with a medium to heavy build. They said he was last seen wearing a grey hoody, black and white skate or athletic shoes that had a big tongue, and blue jeans.
Officers said they are investigating whether Thursday morning’s robbery is connected to any of the previous ones.
