SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- Local law enforcement agencies throughout Eugene and Springfield will be out in force Saturday night monitoring the roads as people celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.

KEZI spoke with Sgt. Brian Humphreys with the Springfield Police Department.

He said the Springfield Police Department, Eugene Police Department and Oregon State Police will have increased DUII patrols Saturday.

Humphreys said the Springfield Police Department plans on having their regular staffing of at least six officers on their night watch in addition to two DUII patrols.

He hopes that people will be responsible as they celebrate the holiday.

“Go out tonight, have a wonderful time, plan your evening, have a designated driver, plan to call a cab, take the bus, call a neighbor, call your mom, just please do not drink and drive."

Humphreys said drunk driving can lead to fines, license suspensions, jail time or worst of all people getting hurt or killed.
