EUGENE, Ore -- Saturday Market is the oldest open-air craft market in the United States and is now entering its 49th year. It will be located at the Downtown Park Blocks in Eugene near East 8th Avenue and Oak Street.

There will be over 200 local artisans, 6 bands that will play every Saturday, and 15 food booths.

Saturday Market started in April of 1970 as a way for local artists and crafters to boost their income for their families. Over time it grew into the institution it is today.

Kirsten Bolton, the general manager of Saturday Market, said the event goes on rain or shine, "We always have food tents in our food court over our stage area...This is Oregon. If you let the weather stop you, you'll never do anything."

She also said that attendance is not usually affected by wet weather, which is expected in this Saturday's forecast. "No, we usually always have a great attendance from our members as well as the general public. They come out and support us regardless of the weather," said Bolton.

Saturday Market is a diverse event that offers something for everyone. The Farmer's Market is also located next to Saturday Market.

Set-up for the event takes place today, April 6, and will officially open Saturday, April 7. Saturday Market will be open every Saturday from April through mid-November.
