EUGENE, Ore. – The Eugene 4J School District has released a second draft for next year’s school schedules.

The district has been working on making a consistent calendar and schedule for more than a year. They held a meeting earlier this month to get feedback from the public on their initial proposal. However, most people at the meeting were against the proposal because high school students wouldn't get out until 4:10 p.m.

The new proposal has high school students starting at 8:25 a.m. and getting out at 3:30 p.m. Middle school students would start at 9 a.m. and get out at 3:50 p.m. Grade schoolers would start between 7:55 a.m. and 8:30 a.m., and be released between 2:55 p.m. and 3 p.m. All grades would be released early on Wednesdays.

KEZI spoke with several Sheldon High School students, with most in favor of the second draft.

"I think the old proposed one was a lot worse because it changes everything back and it makes everything a lot harder especially for parents in the morning and sports and stuff after school,” said Meg Hubbs.

However, one student KEZI spoke to said he liked the initial proposal.

"I like that one better, because I like having extra sleep and I focus better when I have more sleep," said Borges Wilson.
