EUGENE, Ore. -- Plans to build the new YMCA building in south Eugene are moving along, as they've secured their new location.

The Eugene 4J School District approved the sale of the property to the YMCA, who will be buying the property where the former Roosevelt Middle School used to be. They'll be paying more than $700,000 to the district this week.

Staff with the YMCA said this is an amazing opportunity to expand their reach to the community.

“The YMCA wants to be known as not just a place where you come to lift heavy things, but a place where you can come to have heavy things lifted off of your life and off of your shoulders,” said Brian Steffen, the CEO of the YMCA.

Below you can see a rendering of the new building. With the new building they're doubling their parking by more than 100 spaces.

Steffen said with this move they want to not only expand their space but their services too. He said they want to tackle the ever-changing needs of the population. Whether that be with more community-centered spaces or even with programs directed at helping those with chronic diseases.
