74-year-old walks away unharmed after helicopter crash

The experimental helicopter sustained major damage in the crash.

SCIO, Ore. – A 74-year-old walked away uninjured after his experimental helicopter crashed near Scio on Monday.

The Linn County Sheriff’s Office said deputies headed to the 39000 block of Fish Hatchery Drive just before 3:15 p.m.

First responders arriving to the scene found the operator walking around near the crash site, and he reported to officials that he was not injured.

The man was the only occupant of the two-person helicopter. Authorities said he told them there was a mechanical failure when attempting to land. The aircraft sustained major damage in the crash.
