EUGENE, Ore. - In 2017, more than 52,000 people died from opioid overdoses in the United States. Lane County is looking to reduce that number.
Lane County Public Health and the Community Health Centers of Lane County adopted the CDC's opiate prescribing guidelines. The guidelines encourage doctors to prescribe non-narcotic treatments like acupuncture.

The county began offering acupuncture to patients receiving opioid medications. County officials said they've reduced the number of patients receiving opioids by 40 percent.
