ALBANY, Ore. - Firefighters in Albany are warning parents to take preventative steps so their children don't fall out of windows this summer.

They said every year when the weather gets warmer, they receive more calls about children falling out of windows. "Anywhere from bumps and bruises to severe head injuries where it causes permanent disability," said Joe Brier with Albany Fire Department. They said children lean against windows or decide to climb up to them, and often the screen doesn't hold up.

Firefighters suggest parents take preventative measures. First, they say to make sure furniture is not placed in front of windows, to help keep children from climbing up to the window. They also suggest a lock system for the windows but, to make sure it's a system you would be able to get into in the case of emergency.
