ALBANY, Ore. – An Albany man has been arrested on charges alleging that he struck and killed his wife in a drunk driving crash on Tuesday night.

Gary Donavon McDonald, 53, has been charged with second-degree manslaughter, driving under the influence of intoxicants and reckless driving.

Police said Colleen Kay McDonald, 61, was walking north along the shoulder of NE Century Drive when she was hit from behind by a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck driven by McDonald, her husband. She died at the scene.

Alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash, Albany police said.

The crash happened at 7:52 p.m., and Century Drive was closed for more than three hours while police completed a fatal crash investigation. Police said the crash occurred just north of the Knox Butte intersection.

McDonald was arrested and later lodged in Linn County Jail. Anyone with information is asked to contact Sgt. Robert Hayes at the Albany Police Department at 541-917-7680.
