ALBANY, Ore. -- The superintendent of the Albany school district, Jim Golden, is on paid leave following unspecified complaints about his behavior.

The school board took the action last night in a unanimous vote.

Chairman Micah Smith said the complaints do not involve children or allege criminal wrongdoing. Smith wouldn't provide more details.

Rebekah Jacobson, a Salem attorney, has been hired to conduct an investigation, Smith said.

"I want parents and community members, and especially our students in our schools to know that the board's action last night should not [and] we hope does not detract from the quality education they receive in every school and in every classroom by our tremendous professionals," Smith said.

Golden has led the district since March 2015. Officials say there are 9,400 students and 20 schools in the district.

Tonja Everest, the assistant superintendent, will lead the district while Golden is on leave.
