ALBANY, Ore. – The Albany Fire Department held their annual Water and Boat Safety day at Bowman Park on Saturday, July 7.
Fire officials said the event was a way to get the community educated on water and boat safety as the temperatures continue to rise. Throughout their three years of putting on this event, fire officials said they’ve seen the community gain a lot from it.
"Me as a community member, when I talk to my neighbors and those I live with in my community, they're happy to see these things and I'm able just to promote that as well,” said Jamie Smith, a battalion chief with the Albany Fire Department.
The event included many different activities, like boat inspections, boat rides, life jacket fitting, free lunch, and even a demonstration of a sinking car.
Fire officials said they want this event to make everyone feel prepared for the summer ahead. They’re looking forward to seeing how it continues to grow in future years.
