WALTON, Ore. -- More details are coming to light after a fatal crash on Highway 126 east of Walton on Monday.
Oregon State Police say they are investigating the possibility that the log truck driver involved in the crash was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision.
Several vehicles were involved in the crash, which killed Sarah Susman, 25, a Western Lane Ambulance District employee. Officials confirmed Monday afternoon that their part-time employee was headed into work when the crash happened.
OSP said Shane McVay, 64, of Eugene was driving a Kenworth log truck east when the loaded trailer tipped over. The trailer struck Susman's Toyota Prius, which had been headed west, and a Dodge Ram towing a boat that was driven by a 70-year-old Eugene man. The Dodge then hit an eastboundFord Mustang driven by a 20-year-old Coquille resident.
McVay and another driver were taken to RiverBend Hospital with injuries.
The highway was closed for most of the day while authorities investigated.
