SPRINGFIELD, Ore. --  April is amputee awareness month and to honor that the local nonprofit Power on with Limb Loss held a conference  at the Bob Keefer center in Springfield.

Power on with Limb Loss hosted the Discover your Potential with Limb Loss conference to spread the word about their organization
and to bring support to those who've lost limbs.

"If we can form a family, answer questions, do things like this - from local amputees to children who were able to get up and talk," said Paula Free, founder of Power on with Limb Loss. "When you are around people and hear their stories you form a bond"

Power on with Limb Loss offers mentoring programs, support groups, and free events for those in the community that have dealt with limb loss.

Currently in America there are 2 million amputees and Free says it means so much to be able to offer the community resources for those living with limb loss here in Lane County.

Joe Walton was one of the youth speakers at the event and he says he hopes more people continue to join the group.

"I just hope more people come. It's a great opportunity. Lots of people come and share about their experience - it's great."

Power on with Limb Loss is a local non profit and if you would like to donate you can on their website
