ALBANY, Ore. -- A man has been charged with murder in a shooting at Timber Linn Memorial Park in Albany on Sunday.
Elijah Matthew Crump, 20, is charged with second-degree murder, menacing and unlawful use of a weapon. The murder charge in Linn County Circuit Court accuses Crump of killing Joshua Johnston-Partain.
When officers arrived at the park on Sunday night, they found Johnston-Partain, 22, of Albany, lying in the parking lot at the park with multiple gunshot wounds. He later died at the hospital.
Police said at about 11 a.m. on Wednesday, they learned Crump was at the Lincoln City Outlet shopping mall. Detectives followed the blue Pontiac G6 he was in east toward Salem, police said.
Just when law enforcement agencies planned to conduct a high-risk traffic stop, the vehicle reportedly stopped on its own in the Stop n' Save Market's parking lot in Rickreall. The people in the car were detained, police said, and Crump was taken to the Albany Police Department and then to the Linn County Jail.
Police received the report of the shooting at 10:49 p.m. Sunday. Timber Linn Park is located at 900 Price Road SE in Albany.
Albany police are investigating the shooting with help from the Linn County and Benton County sheriff’s offices and the Linn County District Attorney.
