BANDON, Ore. – A middle school boy is suspected of starting two fires at a Bandon school on Saturday, Oregon State Police said.

OSP said Bandon police and fire responded to reports of a fire at Harbor Lights Middle School at about 8 p.m.

The Oregon State Police Arson Unit assisted with the investigation, as the fire was deemed suspicious.

A joint investigation revealed that two fires were intentionally set that night, police said.

The suspect’s name has not been released as he is a juvenile. The school has been notified and will take appropriate administrative actions, police said.

One of the fires caused severe damage but has not prevented school from continuing. The majority of damage was in the boys locker room. All of the football equipment was damaged, police said.

A prosecutor for the Coos County district attorney said she has not seen the investigative report and could not yet comment on possible charges.
