ASHLAND, Ore.- The city of Ashland held a late night vote to approve Uber and Lyft to operate within city limits. The city of Ashland wanted tighter car inspection requirements and more accessibility for folks using wheelchairs.

Ashland City Attorney David Lohman says, "We would not want to be in a situation where people with limited mobility don’t have anyway to access Uber and Lyft and especially if we get to the point where Uber and Lyft drives the taxi cabs out who are the only ones that have wheelchair access."

Differing from Lyft and Uber's agreement with the city of Medford, Ashland is requiring standard vehicle safety inspection requirements.

The city council voted late tonight after 10PM to pass the new municipal code. After a 4-2 vote, Ashlanders can see ride shares on the streets in 30 days.
