EUGENE, Ore. -- It's the holiday season, so some of us may be feeling in a giving mood, but there are some things you need to look out for before you donate.

Danielle Kane from the Better Business Bureau said before you donate, do your homework.

“Figure out where the money you donate is going to,” she said.

You can search organizations and do your homework by visiting the BBB website.

If you come across a website or a charity that raises a red flag, make sure you check your resources, such as the BBB. You can also call the organization and try and get more information.

Another issue with donation scams is social media. When it comes to social media fundraising, such as GoFundMes, you need to take extra care, Kane said.

“There is not a whole lot that needs to be done in order to post that charity, so how do you know as the giver where that money is going?” she said.
