EUGENE, Ore. -- The upcoming baseball season just got a lot more exciting for a local teen.
On Friday, James Dahl became an official member of the University of Oregon baseball team.
Dahl, who attends high school in Eugene, is living with a rare disease that involves inflammation of the brain.
The university paired with a nonprofit called “Team Impact," which connects children with college sports teams.
“You can see the look on my guys' faces today,” George Horton, Ducks coach, said. “How excited we are from our side of it, that James is joining our program. Really the reflection on how fortunate we are to have a young man like him joining our team."
Dahl says he's always had a love for baseball.
He'll go to practices, games, and events with his teammates from now on.
The program lasts for two years, at which point Dahl will "graduate" from the team.
