CORVALLIS, Ore. -- Benton County has joined a growing list of Oregon counties that have gotten the green light to reopen.

Gov. Kate Brown approved the county for reopening in phase one on Friday.

Coos, Douglas and Lane counties announced they also got the go-ahead on Thursday morning, ahead of a press conference from the governor scheduled for 10 a.m.

Under phase one, restaurants and bars can open up for sit-down services with restrictions, and so can barbers and hair salons. Gatherings of up to 25 people will be allowed.

While this means that businesses can open on Friday, they are not required to do so, said Lili'a Neville, Benton County public information officer.

In their applications, county leaders needed to show how they believe they have met the state's seven prerequisites for phase one. Those requirements include a decline in positive cases, sufficient personal protective equipment, and a testing rate of 30 people per 10,000 every week.
