EUGENE, Ore. -- Some seniors about to graduate from the Bethel School District took a trip down memory lane Thursday. They put on their caps and gowns and made their way to elementary and middle schools around the district for the third annual Bethel Grad Walk.

At Prairie Mountain School, they gave the kids high fives as they walked by. School leaders said it's a good way to foster the dream of college and careers after graduating from high school. They said the idea is also to show their appreciation to Bethel's educators and to promote graduation among the younger students.

"It's amazing seeing them make it all the way for this point,” said Teresa Hanavan, who has worked at Prairie Mountain School since it opened. “Knowing them, some of them since probably kindergarten, and doing this walk is pretty special for everyone, especially us oldies."

Willamette High School will hold its graduation ceremony Friday and Kalapuya High School will hold theirs next week.
