EUGENE, Ore. – Students and staff in the Bethel School District will soon no longer have to wear their masks outdoors, officials announced on Thursday.

This comes after updated guidance from the state, and the new rules will take effect June 1.

Students and adults will be able to go without a mask during recess, outdoor physical education and outdoor music education, regardless of vaccination status.

The district reminded students and staff, however, that masks must be worn during arrival and dismissal, and physical distancing requirements still apply.

Eugene School District 4J opted to maintain mask rules for students who are outdoors during the school day.
