SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- A man is in the hospital after being hit by an SUV in Springfield Monday night.
Police said a 42-year-old man was riding his bike near South F Street when he was hit by a car.
The 43-year-old driver told police that he didn't see the victim but he noticed his vehicle pull to the side and was operating oddly. He told police he pulled over and found the victim pinned beneath his Nissan Crossover.
"It's a dark, dark street. There's no lights, it sounds like the male may have already been down in the roadway when he was hit. Again, we don't know yet but preliminary leads us to believe that's a strong possibility," said Sgt. Brian Humphreys, SPD.
When officers arrived, the victim was conscious and speaking to emergency responders. Fire crews extricated the man from underneath the Nissan. The victim was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. His condition is stable.
No arrests have been made but the accident is being investigated.
