EUGENE, Ore. -- A bicyclist was struck in a hit-and-run crash in Eugene on Monday.

The crash happened at 2:30 p.m. Sept. 9 at Bertelsen and Stewart roads. It was caught on camera by a nearby business.

Jacob Kietly, 26, was trying to cross the street in the rain when a white car tried to make a left turn. He said there is another way to get under Bertelsen Road but when it rains, the creek nearby floods the path and forces bikers to cross the busy street.

"I just remember laying on Bertelsen just in the rain waiting for help," Kietly said.

Kietly said the driver got out of his car and the passenger got into the drivers seat and drove the car away. The driver hid near the scene and acted as if he was a Good Samaritan when other people stopped to help.

"I appreciate he acted like a Good Samaritan. I do also remember asking the people around me who hit me. 'Did you hit me? Did you hit me? Were you the driver?' And they all said no," Kietly said.

Kietly said he suffered a broken wrist, severe scrapes and a concussion due to the accident.

If you have any information about this hit-and-run you are urged to contact the Eugene Police Department.
