JUNCTION CITY, Ore. -- A bicyclist is lucky to be alive after colliding with a car that was going about 55 miles per hour just north of Junction City.

The Junction City Police Chief, Bob Morris, said it's a miracle the 18-year-old man survived the impact.

Morris said police were called to the intersection of Furgeson Road and Highway 99 West at about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

When police arrived they found a Honda with a smashed in windshield and a large dent to the passenger side of the car.

The 18-year-old bicyclist was laying in the road and being treated by a nurse.

"This kid was laying absolutely silent when I arrived and did not move, did exactly what he was told and had there been some kind of neck or a back injury, him following those instructions saved his life," Morris said.

Morris said the bicyclist was wearing a helmet and a reflective vest. He was taken to a local hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

The 28-year-old driver has been cooperating with the police.
