ELMIRA, Ore. -- Students in Elmira got an up-close look at some rare birds Friday morning.

Fern Ridge Middle School hosted Joe Krathwohl, also known as “The Birdman.”

Krathwohl is in town for the Eugene Boat and Sportsmen’s Show, but also stopped by the school with two special friends.
Krathwohl brought a white Gyrfalcon and a rare Bateleur Eagle.

Krathwohl uses his organization, Birds N Beasts Inc., to share his love for wildlife and habitat conservation. He hopes to inspire young kids and show them birds are cool.

“If they walk away thinking birds are cool, then they'll start walking around looking for birds around them. They'll become conscious of the birds,” Krathwohl said.

Eighth-grader Colton Leturno said he enjoyed the presentation.

“My favorite part was probably when the birds would try to take off. That's pretty cool. They're pretty powerful,” Leturno said.

Krathwohl will be showing more birds at his Megabirds show at the Eugene Boat and Sportsmen’s Show through the weekend. For more information, click here.
