73-year-old Blachly man dies in crash on Highway 36

EUGENE, Ore. -- A 73-year-old Blachly man is dead after a crash Sunday on Highway 36, Oregon State Police said.

Police responded to a two-vehicle crash near milepost 36 at about 2:30 p.m.

Investigators said Josh Berlanga, 36, of Junction City was driving a Dodge pickup west when he crossed into the eastbound lane for an unknown reason. Police said he hit Patrick Gulick, 73, of Blachly, who was headed east on the highway in a Ford pickup.

Both were taken to the hospital via air ambulance with life-threatening injuries. Gulick was pronounced dead at Good Samaritan Hospital in Corvallis.

Highway 36 was closed for more than four hours on Sunday after the crash. The Oregon Department of Transportation and Junction City and Lane County fire departments assisted police.
