EUGENE, Ore..-- Protests fighting against systemic racism continue across Eugene.

The group Black Unity held a “Children’s March” Sunday afternoon, as an opportunity to teach kids about how they can use their voice for change.

Community members were encouraged to bring their children or to show up in support for a safe and peaceful march.

The march began at Sladden Park and ended at Skinner’s Butte, where knowledge was shared and games were played.

“It's just an opportunity for the kids to march in a safe environment,” Eugene resident Melanie Cliff said. “I was at the protest last night. Not a place for kids obviously. I think the kids need a chance to do this, and it's safe for them."

Individuals of all ages gathered with signs raised and chants shouted, as they marched in solidarity with one another.

“It’s all inclusive, and it’s Eugene. If your kids are growing up in Eugene, they should be part of it. The sooner you can get them active, the better.”

Eugene resident Eva Chava Kronen shared why she chose to show her support on Sunday.

“I work with children, and I believe that change happens when we teach children how to be good citizens," Chava said. "Being anti-racist is being a good citizen.”

Many at the event shared the importance of being an ally and fighting for change, regardless of one's age.

“We owe it to the children to create a world that everyone can live in peace and free from harm and free from violence,” Kronen said.

The group marched back to Sladden Park at the conclusion of the event.
