LYONS, Ore. – A blown transformer led to a shots fired call at Mari-Linn Elementary School in Lyons Friday morning.

The Linn County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to the school at about 6:30 a.m. A caller reported hearing a gunshot and seeing what she thought was a muzzle flash just outside the school.

At the time, there were only a few staff members at the school and children were just starting to arrive.

Oregon State Police assisted with the investigation.

Deputies said Pacific Power arrived on scene to check on a blown transformer. The incident happened in the same location the caller said the sound came from. Authorities confirmed that the transformer was behind the loud noise and the flash.

During the investigation, students were locked in a safe place as they arrived. There was no threat to the school. It was deemed safe about an hour after the call was made.
