SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- Crews will soon begin work on pavement overlay as well as the sidewalk ramps and signs in Springfield.

The areas that will be improved are from G Street to the Highway 126 on-ramp on Mohawk Boulevard and from the intersection of Olympic Street and Mohawk Boulevard to 28th Street.

Wildish Construction is contracted for the $3.24 million project, which was approved by Springfield voters.

The purpose of the project is to improve the pavement. With that also comes improving the sidewalk ramps to align with the American Disabilities Act.

Crews are also going to improve the striping and improve walk signs and also add countdown timers on the walk signs.

Kristi Krueger, a principal engineer with the city of Springfield, said the work on the ramps will begin next week and will happen during the day. After that, the pavement work will begin, and that part will take place at night.

The project will be completed by October at the latest, Krueger said.
